Craig Steele follows his dream to join the military but awakes to the reality of war when he is deployed to a combat zone. He joins the Army in the spring of 2001 but the terrorist attacks in September change the world and set the stage for his first deployment. When his plane lands in Afghanistan, a near miss in a minefield introduces Craig to the dangers that lie ahead.
Missions in Afghanistan and surrounding countries usher Craig into a new world of adventure. However, the deployment takes a turn for the worse when Craig sees a friend killed during a mission. The realities of war boil over and a battle erupts within Craig that unleashes anger, doubt and guilt about his decisions.
Emotion overflows and Craig is sent home on R&R after a violent confrontation with a local worker. Being home complicates matters as the storm inside Craig pushes him further along a path of self-destruction. Challenged by those around him to face his demons, Craig embarks on a journey of self-discovery that calls him to fulfill his dream.
